BARNHART/JEWETT

Cheryl Barnhart 1990
Jan Jewett 1991

The environment was our emphasis for 1990-1992. The club acted on 4 proposals submitted to the city: Residential Recycling, Household Hazardous Waste, Leaf/Limb Composting, and Public Education. The club sponsored 4 community recycling days at Lilburn Recycling Depository (established at the club's request). Curbside recycling became a reality and information about recycling reached 5,000 children and families. A recycling community service plan for youthful offenders was organized. The club sponsored recycling of Christmas trees, phone books, license tags, and magazines. "Lilburn", a bald eagle from DNR Adopt an Eagle Program was adopted by the club using funds raised by recycling. Television publicity was obtained for the program with the delivery of "Lilburn" and his placement in the environment. In 1990, the Jean Beck Memorial Fund was established in honor of a deceased member. Funds will be used to provide assistance to children in local schools. In addition, the club: revised the Bylaws and Standing Rules; became a Community Volunteer Partner with Lilburn Elementary; made INSA puppets and presented a skit; assisted the Rape Crisis Center providing kits for victims who need clean war-up suits, underwear,

and toiletries. We donated $5,000 to the Children's Shelter.
